1565 AD: The start of the Manila-Acapulco Silver Run


Contrary to popular belief, the contemporaries of Christopher Columbus did not thing the world was flat.  Nor did Columbus’s sailors fear that they would sail off the edge of the world.  What they did fear was that here would be nothing but more ocean past the western horizon, long after provisions had ran out.  If the ocean was to great, the crew would be doomed, with East Asia and all its trading riches not yet in sight.
